About Me

Humble Beginnings

I am a proud Métis woman from the Qu’Appelle Valley, a devoted wife, a mother of five, and a grandmother to eleven grandchildren. I have been married to the love of my life, Sandy, for 29 years, and we reside in the town of Indian Head, SK, part of the historical Métis Homeland.

My family boasts a strong history in the Qu’Appelle Valley, where they have lived for generations. My spirit, culture, and kinship ties have drawn me back to my roots. My life's work has been dedicated to making a difference in communities and with the people I have served. I have been a committed volunteer, participating in several community committees and advisory councils both provincially and nationally.

I love being on the land, learning about its offerings and the significance of its places and spaces, and honoring our deep connections. In my spare time, I enjoy creating with textiles or other mediums, traveling, and spending quality time with my family, which is my favorite pastime.

My Experience

My Life's Work

I have dedicated the majority of my career to community development, (CDEV) working as a practitioner in this vital field.  My work has primariy been in the education and disability sectors.

In my work, I have often tackled challenges such as poverty, inequality, and marginalization through community organizing and advocacy.

CDEV seeks to address all aspects of community well-being, including economic, social, environmental, and cultural dimensions.  The time I have spent in community and building communities has been very fulfilling and part of my soul's work for the last 25 years.

Over the past eight years, I have served as a governing member of  Métis Nation Saskatchewan Provincial Métis Council, fulfilling multiple roles within the MN-S Cabinet, including Minister of Health, Minister of Finance, and Regional Director for Eastern Region III. Additionally, I was appointed as the chairperson of the Métis Addictions Council of Saskatchewan, successfully completing my mandates across various portfolios. My involvement also extends to serving as a board member of the Saskatchewan Métis Economic Development Corporation.

With a diverse background in both the private and public sectors, I have extensively worked in the fields of education and health as a community development practitioner.

My formal education was completed at the University of Regina. A highlight of my career was being awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022, recognizing my contributions and commitment to community leadership.

Throughout my tenure, I have consistently demonstrated commitment by participating in every  Provincial Métis Council meeting, every Legislative Assembly, and all MNS community engagements. Additionally, I have attended and represented MNS at numerous conferences focused on issues impacting Métis citizens, including Elders, children, and youth.

I have lobbied for change and additional resources at the federal level with Canada, and have been present at every strategic discussion concerning Métis Nation Saskatchewan. As a responsive leader I have remained visible and attentive to the people who entrusted them with responsibility.

My service is driven by the goal to make a meaningful difference in the community, ensuring that the voices and needs of the Métis people are heard and addressed.

My Mission

Building on a Legacy

To honour the work of our past great leaders, my mission is to empower and uplift Métis communities, fostering cultural pride and unity through inclusive leadership and sustainable development.

I am dedicated to advocating for the needs and rights of all Métis citizens, ensuring that their voices are heard and respected at every level of governance. By promoting education, preserving our rich cultural heritage, and enhancing community well-being, I aim to build a resilient and prosperous future for  Eastern Region III.

I strive to lead with integrity, transparency, and accountability, remaining responsive to the people I serve and committed to making a meaningful difference in their lives. Through collaboration and collective action, I seek to create opportunities that enhance the social, economic, and cultural fabric of our communities, ensuring a legacy of strength and unity for generations to come.

A Shared Vision

I have remained steadfast in my commitment to Eastern Region III, our Regional Council, and our citizens. Together, under a shared vision, we have experienced growth as a region, engaging more Métis families, youth, and Elders in celebrating our identity as Métis people. We have worked collaboratively to build upon our rich cultural heritage and foster a stronger sense of community and belonging.

Through our collective efforts, we've encouraged active participation in cultural events and initiatives that honor our traditions and history. By nurturing these connections, we continue to empower our community, ensuring that our values and legacy endure for future generations.

Our Metis Footprint

Our Métis footprint is a testament to the resilience, innovation, and cultural richness of the Métis people. It represents the distinct path we have carved, reflecting our vibrant traditions, values, and history. From our beginnings, the Métis have been bridge builders—connecting diverse cultures, fostering understanding, and driving collaboration across communities. As ERIII regional representative,

I have participated in the growth and well-being of Eastern Region III, and its significance with Métis Nation Saskatchewan. I will ensure its continued success and prosperity.

Our footprint is seen in the strength of our families, the leadership of our Elders, and the potential of our youth.

Our footprint will include significant economic contributions across various industries, showcasing our adaptability and resourcefulness with potential opportunities now and in the future.

Our footprint is firmly planted in the fight for recognition, rights, and self-determination. Through advocacy and negotiation, we are securing important legal recognitions and continue to strive for equity and justice.

Respect for the land and sustainable practices are integral to the Métis way of life. Hosting food security workshops, sustenance off the land including harvesting, gathering and fishing is an integral part of thriving. Our footprint reflects our commitment to conserving natural resources and promoting environmental stewardship for future generations as we have done with ERIII Traditional Land Use Study and future project for the Lebret Metis Farm.

In honouring our Métis footprint, we celebrate the past, embrace the present, and look forward to a future where our legacy continues to flourish, leaving an indelible mark on the world around us.
